I don’t know what exactly it is about this book that seems to beckon me so strongly to read it, but certainly this fantastic new cover isn’t helping. The previous cover by Alan Lee was certainly no less impressive, so regardless of the edition I end up purchasing I think it’s high time I learn more about Húrin and his conflict with Morgoth as I look forward to this new perspective in the Middle Earth mythology.
From Del Rey:
Ever since the 1960s, Ballantine/Del Rey has been the official mass market publisher of J.R.R. Tolkien’s work, from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings to The Silmarillion and The Lost Road and Other Writings. We were as delighted as anyone in the world when Christopher Tolkien announced that after decades of work he had completed his father’s last great project, The Children of Húrin. Now, illustrated with eight pieces of gorgeous four-color art by award-winning artist Alan Lee, the mass market edition is ready for release. The novel is both a thrill and a delight, returning readers to the world of Elves and Men, dragons and Dwarves, and the rich landscapes familiar to all fans of Middle-earth. Reviewers everywhere praised the hardcover edition; here is just one sample.
“[A] superb addition to the Tolkien canon… Stunning in its scope, writing and storytelling.” —Chicago Sun-Times
